BBC: Conspiracy Theorists Are the Greatest Challenge to Democracy

| October 29, 2013
Have you ever come across an imperialist who was keen on activists challenging the establishment?

British establishment mouthpiece BBC leads the way again. This time it is about the biggest threat to democracy today. No, it is not terrorists. No, it is not Islamism. And, no, it is not the Western-Installed Dictator Regimes around the world. No, no, no, no, no. The new enemy is the conspiracy theorists. It is those who question their governments. It is those who find facts and confront the mainstream lies and liars such as BBC. Basically, it is you … and me.

Allow me to wade through all the fillers and present you with a few telling excerpts from this BBC report:

Are conspiracy theories destroying democracy?

The more information we have about what governments and corporations are up to the less we seem to trust them. Will conspiracy theories eventually destroy democracy?

Mr. Naughton is one of three lead investigators in a major new Cambridge University project to investigate the impact of conspiracy theories on democracy.

David Runciman, professor of politics at Cambridge University, the third principal investigator, is keen to explode the idea that most conspiracies are actually “cock-ups”.

“Actually the conspirators are often the paranoid and crazy conspiracy theorists, because in their attempt to cover up the cock-up they get drawn into a web in which their self-justification posits some giant conspiracy trying to expose their conspiracy. “And I think that’s consistently true through a lot of political scandals, Watergate included.”

He is also examining whether the push for greater openness and transparency in public life will fuel, rather than kill off, conspiracy theories… “It may be that one of the things conspiracy theories feed on as well as silence, is a surfeit of information. And when there is a mass of information out there, it becomes easier for people to find their way through to come to the conclusion they want to come to.

What are they really talking about? What are they really presenting? A few things.

1-Challenging official stories, no matter how the record and history proves them to be false or exaggerated, lowers trust in government and government officials. This is a threat to the establishment and their operations through states. Thus, this is a threat to democracy. That is, if you believe that the state, the government, represents democracy. It means government equals democracy, thus, you are challenging democracy every time you challenge your government and what your government is telling you.

2- These guys, these credible Cambridge professors, claim that openness, the internet, and greater information accessibility creates more conspiracies and conspiracy theorists.

3-Now, if you add item 2 to item 1, you get this: Openness and greater information accessibility leads to more conspiracies and increases the number of conspiracy theorists, and that my friend presents the greatest threat to our democracy today.

Wow. Oh, wow. I am not going to even bother with the logical fallacies imbedded in the points made by these distinguished professors. Of course I won’t bother with BBC and its reputation and consistency when it comes to representing the establishment. Instead, I am going to get down and check out the source of funding for these academic hit-men.

Now, that was easy. I checked out Cambridge and this conspiracy theorist oriented research program, and I found the source of its funding right away:

Professor David Runciman is part of a new Leverhulme-funded interdisciplinary, collaborative project on conspiracy theories at the University of Cambridge.

Here is a short canned background on Leverhulme Trust:

The Leverhulme Trust was established in 1925 under the will of the First Viscount Leverhulme, William Hesketh Lever, with the instruction that its resources should be used to support “scholarships for the purposes of research and education.”  Since that time, the Trust has provided funding for research projects, fellowships, studentships, bursaries and prizes; it operates across all the academic disciplines, the intention being to support talented individuals as they realize their personal vision in research and professional training. With annual funding of some £50 million, the Trust is amongst the largest all-subject providers of research funding in the UK.

From the canned background I moved to the fund’s founder, William Lever, and a few noteworthy points got my attention:

He began manufacturing Sunlight Soap and built a business empire with many well-known brands. He was an advocate for expansion of the British Empire, particularly in Africa and Asia, which supplied palm oil, a key ingredient in Lever’s product line.

Lever was involved with freemasonry and by 1902 was first initiate to a lodge bearing his name, William Hesketh Lever Lodge No. 2916, he later formed Leverhulme Lodge 4438. He saw freemasonry as a tool to reinforce the hierarchy within Lever Brothers…

In the early 1900s Lever was using palm oil produced in the British West African colonies. When he encountered difficulties in obtaining more palm plantation concessions, he started looking elsewhere in other colonies. In 1911, Lever visited the Belgian Congo to take advantage of cheap labour and palm oil concessions in that country. Lever’s attitudes towards the Congolese were paternalistic and by today’s standards, racist, and his negotiations with the Belgian coloniser to enforce the system known as travail forcé (forced labour) are well documented in the book ‘Lord Leverhulme’s Ghosts,’ in which the author states: “Leverhulme set up a private kingdom reliant on the horrific Belgian system of forced labour, a program that reduced the population of Congo by half and accounted for more deaths than the Nazi holocaust.” As such, he participated in this system of formalised labour

You see, when you read about William Lever and Leverhulme Trust’s background things start making more sense. Don’t they?

William Lever was a high-level Freemason and very committed to the secret society. The kind of commitment Freemasonry demanded:

Regular Freemasonry has in its core ritual a formal obligation: to be quiet and peaceable citizens, true to the lawful government of the country in which they live, and not to countenance disloyalty or rebellion.[12] A Freemason makes a further obligation, before being made Master of his Lodge, to pay a proper respect to the civil magistrates

You see, those who challenge the establishment are also challenging the core of Freemasonry. No?

Lever was an avid advocate for expansion of the British Empire, particularly in Africa and Asia. Have you ever come across an imperialist who was keen on activists challenging the establishment, aka conspiracy theorists who challenge establishment-packaged information (propaganda)? I haven’t. Not one.

Lever was an enforcer of a system known as travail forcé, forced labour, in colonies where his business ripped the resources (Labor and agriculture). Back then, as it is today, moguls like Lever thrived based on their close partnerships with their imperial governments: colonization. What does that mean? It means, for imperialist business moguls like Lever, any challenge to the empires, challenging and questioning the imperial propaganda, equals a challenge to the empire’s business partners such as Lever.

Now, with all the above, do you see how a handful of Leverhulme funded pea-brain academics spend millions of dollars to paint those who challenge imperial governments’ misinformation as conspiracy theorists who present a great threat to democracy? Do you see how these conspirators easily grab spots under the spotlights of the imperial media machine-such as BBC?

Please take notice of another highly important fact about this entire operation: They, the establishment, must be getting extremely nervous and threatened to put on such a goofy show with even goofier players via the ultimately goofy outlet BBC. That, my friends, is really good news for the conspiracy theorists … you … and me.

If you are not a conspiracy theorist then you are an idiot

a) A conspiracy theory is a theory that explains some event or events as due in part to a conspiracy, that is, to a secret plan to influence events by partly secret means. b) Every historically and politically literate person employs the strategy of sometimes believing (and sometimes being prepared to believe) conspiracy theories. c) Every historically and politically literate person is a conspiracy theorist. d) The only way not to be a conspiracy theorist is to be historically and politically illiterate that is to be, in the Greek sense of the word, an idiot. f) Therefore if you are not a conspiracy theorist then you are an idiot.

BBC tweaks Hizballah statement, promotes its conspiracy theories

[...]Muir ends his report with a burst of pure Hizballah propaganda.

“It’s ironic that Hizballah’s involvement in Syria may have been something that stiffened European opinion against it because one of the main arguments it has for taking part in that struggle is to combat the Al Qaeda-type terrorists – as they see it – who are fighting alongside the rebels and they’re indeed taking the initiative in many areas. So for Hizballah the whole terrorist issue is highly politicized – that’s why it is undoubtedly going to dismiss this European move as highly politically motivated: part of an Israeli-backed plan to undermine resistance both by Hizballah, by Syria and by their strategic ally, Iran.”

It is perfectly legitimate to attempt to explain to BBC audiences the outlook of a terrorist organization in order to enhance their understanding of a complicated issue, providing that the journalist balances that information with facts so as to avoid turning his report into propaganda. It is quite another thing to adopt a terrorist organisation’s language – as seen in Muir’s use of the term “resistance” – and to promote its conspiracy theories.

Muir’s failure to present any balance to the Hizballah party line, his promotion of the conspiracy theory-based notion of the EU designation as being a “politically motivated” cave-in to a mysterious Israeli master plan and his resulting relativist whitewashing of Hizballah’s very long history of terror and crime is not only inaccurate and partial, but deliberate misinformation.[...]

O Holy Night

O Holy Night! The stars are brightly shining, It is the night of the dear Saviour’s birth. Long lay the world in sin and error pining. Till He appeared and the Spirit felt its worth. A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices, For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.

Fall on your knees!

Oh, hear the angel voices!

O night divine, the night when Christ was born;

O night, O Holy Night , O night divine!

O night, O Holy Night , O night divine!

Led by the light of faith serenely beaming, With glowing hearts by His cradle we stand. O’er the world a star is sweetly gleaming, Now come the wise men from out of the Orient land. The King of kings lay thus lowly manger; In all our trials born to be our friends. He knows our need, our weakness is no stranger,

Behold your King!

Before him lowly bend!

Behold your King!

Before him lowly bend!

Truly He taught us to love one another, His law is love and His gospel is peace. Chains he shall break, for the slave is our brother. And in his name all oppression shall cease. Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we, With all our hearts we praise His holy name.

Christ is the Lord!

Then ever, ever praise we, His power and glory ever more proclaim!

His power and glory ever more proclaim!

Amen

Egyptian rapper speaks for women’s rights

By MARIAM RIZK  -
Associated Press

CAIRO     (AP) — As soon as the beat started, the young woman bobbed her head to the rhythm, raised her hands to get the crowd clapping and then unleashed a flood of rap lyrics that tackled some of the biggest social challenges women face in the Arab world.

With the Middle East’s hit TV show “Arabs Got Talent” as her stage, 18-year-old Myam Mahmoud rapped about sexual harassment, second-class treatment of women, and societal expectations of how a young religious woman should behave.

The Egyptian teenager didn’t win the program – she crashed out in the semifinals – but she did succeed in throwing the spotlight on something bigger than herself.

“I wanted to tell girls in Egypt and everywhere else that they are not alone, we all have the same problems, but we cannot stay silent, we have to speak up,” Mahmoud, who wears an Islamic headscarf but not a full-face veil, told The Associated Press.

In Egypt, a country where politics have grabbed most of the headlines for the past three years, little space has been dedicated to addressing social problems. So Mahmoud, who is a first-year student of politics and economics at the October 6 University in a western Cairo suburb, decided to draw attention to women’s rights through rap.

“Everybody speaks about politics, but nobody tackles the topics that relate to me the most,” Mahmoud said.

She said she gets the ideas for her songs from the surrounding community, and that sometimes girls send her their problems to write about and give them a voice.

“Many girls want to say what I rap about, but they cannot for many reasons,” she said. “I speak for them.”

One of the biggest problems for woman in Egypt is sexual harassment. A U.N. report released in April said the issue had reached “unprecedented levels,” with 99.3 percent of women in the country reporting that they have been subjected to sexual harassment.

“There is no single female in Egypt that has not been harassed, regardless of her looks,” Mahmoud said. “As soon as a girl is born in Egypt, she is repressed with many pressures.”

Part of the problem, in Mahmoud’s eyes, is that women don’t speak out against harassment.

“I wish we would not be silent about our problems,” she said. “We have to snatch our freedoms, nobody will just offer them.”

Her lyrics take the issue head on.

“Some of us see the answer is to cover up, and if the girl is hidden she will not be assaulted,” she raps in one song. “My body is only mine.”

Initiatives to counter the problem have increased in the past year in Egypt, where volunteer groups have started protecting women at street protests. On the other side of the debate are conservative religious clerics who blame women, saying they invite harassment and sexual abuse by mixing with men. The issue is, in part at least, linked to the broader expectations that many men in religiously conservative Egypt have about women and their roles in society.

For the latest, see this new story.

UPDATE: Turns out this “research” vessel was mostly a taxpayer funded junket for getting video stories to BBC in the UK and ABC in Australia, see update2 below.

It is summer in the southern hemisphere and yet there is still signifiicantly above normal amounts of sea ice present as the passengers and crew of one tour ship discovered. The icebreakers Xue Long and Aurora Australis, and a French research vessel Astrolabe are cruising towards the Akademik Shokalskiy at full throttle for rescue. Photos and maps follow.

It is every Antiques Roadshow fan’s dream – a  painting picked up in a shop for just £400 has been identified as a Van Dyck  masterpiece.

The piece, worth up to £400,000, will be  revealed tonight to be the most valuable painting to feature in the show’s  36-year history.

It was identified after a hunch by   presenter Fiona Bruce when the owner of the painting, Father Jamie MacLeod, took  it along to be valued at Newstead Abbey in Nottinghamshire.

Ms Bruce, who recently made a TV programme  about Anthony van Dyck, thought it might be a genuine work  by the Flemish  master and showed it to an expert. It was later confirmed  to be by the  leading court painter in 17th Century England.

‘It’s everyone’s dream to spot a hidden  masterpiece,’ she said. ‘I’m thrilled that my hunch paid off – to discover a  genuine Van Dyck is incredibly exciting.’

The picture, showing a Brussels magistrate,  is believed to be a preparatory piece for a larger work painted in  1634.

While the main painting was destroyed in  1695, the smaller single portrait survived and somehow found its way to an  antiques shop in Nantwich, Cheshire.

From there it was bought for £400 by Fr  MacLeod – mainly because he liked its golden frame.

After art expert Philip Mould inspected it,  it underwent a thorough  restoration and was officially verified as a genuine  Van Dyck by Dr  Christopher Brown, who is a world authority on the  artist.

Mr Mould said: ‘Discoveries of this type are  exceptionally rare. The  painting’s emergence from beneath layers of paint was  dramatic.

Photos: Volgograd suicide bomber’s identity confirmed

@ Photo: Voice of Russia

The suicide bomber who set off a 10kg TNT charge today in the southern Russian city of Volgograd had officially been identified as Oksana Aslanova, a 26-year-old Tabasaran national from Turkmenistan, the Voice of Russia’s source reports.

 An explosion rocked the railway station in Volgograd at 12:45 Moscow Time on Sunday, December 29th . According to the latest reports, 14 people were killed and dozens injured. One of the current version of events, the terrorist attack was carried out by Oksana Aslanova from Daghestan but that information needs to be confirmed,” the source said.

 The woman was married to a militant warlord who was killed during a recent special operation. She was married several times. Investigators are searching for the relatives of Dagestani bandits suspected of masterminding terrorist attacks in Central Russia.

 Investigations to establish the whereabouts of Oksana Aslanova has been underway in Daghestan since June of 2012.

 Oksana Aslanova was reportedly born June 16, 1987 in Turkmenistan. She later moved to live in Russia’s North Caucasian Republic of Dagestan. She settled in the city of Derbent at 15/41, Rasulbekov Street and studied at the Dagestan State Pedagogic University.

 She married Mansur Velibekov, a Chechen radical and member of the Southern (Yuzhnaya) criminal ring that was wiped in 2008. Upon her death, Velibekov’s widow became a so-called “Sharia wife” of the gang’s leader, Gasan Abdulayev.

 Another report suggests that Aslanova was also married to a known terrorist, Israpil Validzhanov, who went under the nickname of Amir Hasan. He was eliminated on March 18, 2011 near the Dagestani village of Tashkapur.

There is no information about her since March 8, 2012 it is possible that the so-called “black widow”, who outlived all her husbands, underwent training as a suicide bomber.

 Her ID was reported as follows: passport series 6706 No 719598, issued on Aug. 25, 2007 by the Federal Migration Service in the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Region. She was registered at the address: 12/34, 1 Mikrorayon, city of Raduzhny in Nizhnevartovsk district in the Region of Tyumen.

 Another theory has it that the Volgograd bombing was carried out by a male terrorist who carried explosives in a backpack, a police source told Russia’s Interfax news agency.

 “We’ve discovered that the suicide bomber was in fact a man who brought the IED to the railway station in a rucksack. His identity has been determined.”

 The source did not name the alleged attacker, but added investigators had found an unexploded hand-grenade and a pistol at the scene, which presumably belonged to the terrorist.

 Yet another police source in the North Caucasus region told Interfax the railway station’s CCTV footage also showed a man who might have been behind the bombing. “Videos from the building’s cameras suggest that the terror attack was apparently carried out by a man, although this information needs to be confirmed.”

 As Dmitry Rutkov, psychologist and blogger from Volgograd, said in an interview with the Voice of Russia, people were not surprised by this attack.

 “People received information from Internet and from other people. There is a list of injured and dead people but it is not full. I can see now in the Internet – the list of injured: there are only 11 people, but now in the Internet people are saying that there are 18 dead people. The scariest thing is that people were not surprised by this terror attack. It’s even scarier than the explosion itself,” he said in an interview.

 Volgograd’s transport hub status makes it likely terror plot target – source

 Volgograd is a major transportation hub in southern Russia, and this probably explains why it has been a target for bombings on two occasions in the last few months, a law enforcement source in the North Caucasus Federal District said in comments on Sunday’s suspected suicide attack in the city that claimed at least 15 lives.

 “It is, indeed, the second time that Volgograd has become a target for terrorist attacks. First of all, a female suicide attack set off an explosive device and then at a train station,” the source told Interfax.

 “Apparently this city is attractive to terrorists as it is a major transportation interchange hub in the south of Russia. The terrorist act carried out there has inevitably caused wide-scale reverberations, and that is the objective of the criminals,” he said.

 The station had apparently been the target for Sunday’s blast, which is thought to have been perpetrated by a female suicide attacker, the source said.

 “One can go to Moscow, St. Petersburg and other cities from that station, but it isn’t very likely that the female suicide bomber, with more than 10 kilograms of TNT on her, would have ventured a long-distance trip on a train or bus,” he said.

 Detectives are exploring strong suspicions that there is a well-organized militant group based in Volgograd, according to the source.

 “There are most likely people in Volgograd who can meet an evildoer, supply her with explosives, and send her to a crowded place to carry out a terrorist act,” the source said.

 Investigators also believe it is highly likely that the suspected bomber came from the Caucasus, most likely from the Dagestan republic.

 Earlier, a Dagestani law enforcement source said records on everyone who had left Dagestan in the past few days were being checked in trying to trace Sunday’s suspected attacker. The bomb set off at the entrance to the Volgograd-1 station on Sunday claimed 15 lives and left about 50 people injured, according to updates.

 As Sunday’s attack, October’s bus explosion is believed to have been perpetrated by a female suicide bomber. The attack is confirmed to have immediately claimed six lives and is believed to have killed the bomber as well. The toll rose as a woman injured in the attack died in a Moscow hospital on November 18.

 Volgograd railway station blast: suicide bomber kills dozens, including one child

 A Female suicide bomber blew herself up in a train station at the southern Russian city of Volgograd, killing over a dozen people and injuring scores more in the city’s second deadly bombing in just over two months. According to Russia’s Investigative Commitee, the power of the bomb blast was equivalent to 10 kg of TNT.

 At least 14 people were killed, including one child, in a blast at a railway station in the city of Volgograd.

Earlier it was reported that between 13 and 18 people were killed and up to 50 more were wounded, according to various estimates by Russian officials, by the blast near the metal detectors at the Volgograd-1 train station’s front entrance at 12:45 pm (8:45 am GMT).

Some victims of the explosion are being evacuated by Russia’s Emergency Situations Ministry by plane to Moscow, approximately a 90-minute flight away, for medical help.

Investigators said they have opened a criminal case into the attack for terrorism and weapons trafficking.

CHANGING a light bulb for one of the world’s biggest celebrations is not as simple as using a ladder.

It involves a crane and heights of up to 60m to change the light fitting. That’s exactly what the masterminds and technicians of Sydney’s New Year Eve fireworks show have been doing the last couple of nights to make sure everything goes off without a hitch.

The dress rehearsals have given lucky Sydneysiders the first glimpse of what the brilliant sky show will look like as bright coloured lights and an image that resembled an eye have lit up the Harbour Bridge for the Bridge Effect spectacle in the last week.

 Strings of lights have been tested including the new use of colour changing LED tubes that will sparkle over the harbour.

Fireworks New Year’s Eve producer Aneurin Coffey said they had found a small section of rope lights of about 3m that had blown.

“No one will really notice but we want it to be perfect,” Mr Coffey said. “Everything is going well, there have minor repairs but we are pleased with how it’s working.”

While he remained tight lipped on what was going to be featured on the night, Mr Coffey said the Bridge Effect would be 72m long _ twice as wide as it had been in previous years.

But what those battling the crowds ringside Sydney Harbour can expect is an AC/DC tribute where the bands popular anthem Thunderstruck is featured in the soundtrack for the midnight fireworks display.

On December 5th, The National Reconnaissance Office launched a new spy satellite called NROL-39 from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California. Its logo features a giant octopus engulfing the world with the ominous words “Nothing is Beyond our Reach” underneath. Is there a better way to portray a nightmarish, big-brotherish totalitarian government? No. In fact, this exact imagery was used to portray “evil communists” a few decades ago.

“>“Know Your Communist Enemy” p.3 in Robert B. Watts (1977), “Our Freedom Documents”, The Supreme Council, Washington

“Know Your Communist Enemy” p.3 in Robert B. Watts (1977), “Our Freedom Documents”, The Supreme Council, Washington

“>bawnccdceaeekoi

The same imagery now appears on a rocket launched by one most secretive agencies of the United States. Mind boggling.

.

In the wake of NSA-related revelations, the logo raised quite a few eyebrows. Christopher Soghoian, principal technologist and senior policy analyst for the ACLU, tweeted to the Office of Director of National Intelligence, “You may want to downplay the massive dragnet spying thing right now. This logo isn’t helping.”

However, as I noted in my article entitled Top 10 Most Sinister PSYOPS Mission Patches, secret missions patches are not about public relations. They’re usually a brutally honest representation of the mindset of the occult elite and its goals: All-seeing eyes, Illuminati pyramid, evil-looking cloak magicians overlooking the globe, etc.

The payload of this NRO launch is, as usual, top secret. The agency however revealed that, other than its main payload, a dozen mini satellites funded by both the NRO and NASA will be put in orbit. According to William Graham at spaceflight.com, NROL-39 will be used for radar imaging:

“it can be inferred that NROL-39 is the third satellite in the NRO’s current-generation radar reconnaissance fleet. It follows the NROL-41 mission, or USA-215, launched in September 2010, and NROL-25 (USA-234) which was launched by a Delta IV in April 2012.

The radar imaging program is believed to be a remnant of the NRO’s Future Imagery Architecture (FIA) program, which was intended to produce new-generation optical and radar-imaging surveillance satellites, replacing the earlier KH-11 and Onyx radar imaging spacecraft.”

In other words, the satellite will be used to spy on “enemies” and civilians alike with technology that can’t even be revealed to the public.
.
Some commented, in a lame attempt to rationalize the sinister aspect of the logo, that the NROL-39 patch aims to “poke fun at conspiracy theorists”. Really? Maybe we should point out that there is no “theory” anymore. All-encompassing governmental surveillance is a known and documented fact. The logo is slapped right on the equipment used to spy on people. There is no joke or “poking fun” going on here. The budget of the NRO is over 10 billion dollars per year. Billion. One billion is a THOUSAND millions. With this kind of money involved, nobody is joking around.

UK: The Occult Symbolism of the 2012 Olympics Opening and Closing Ceremonies

$

Aug 17th, 2012

Watched by almost a billion viewers across all five continents, the 2012  Olympic ceremonies were, for a few hours, the focal point of the world. As is  the case for most high-profile media events, the world elite’s messages, symbols  and agenda were part of the show. We’ll look at the occult symbolism of the  opening and closing ceremonies of the 2012 London Olympics.

Olympic ceremonies are often among the most watched TV events on the planet.  They are an exceptional chance for the host countries to showcase their  greatness through a grandiose, elaborate and massive show. The 2012 London  Olympics were no exception as England’s history, culture and accomplishments  were thoroughly celebrated and applauded. Some moments were grand, others were  funny; some were dark and even disturbing. Other moments were highly symbolic,  reflecting the agenda of the occult elite. Given that London is one of the power  capitals of the world, it would have been more surprising if the symbolism and  philosophy of the global elite had not been infused throughout the  ceremonies.

Of course, not everything was symbolic in that sense and not everything was  in-your-face, but over the course of the several hours that the ceremonies  lasted, a good deal of symbolism was communicated to billion of viewers around  the world. Let’s look at the most symbolic moments of the 2012 London  Olympics.

Opening Ceremony

The ceremonies were designed and coordinated by Danny Boyle, director of the  movies Trainspotting and Slumdog Millionaire. Entitled Isles of Wonder, the opening ceremony focused on the history of England  and the actors that influenced it. The journey began in ancient and mythical  England then traveled through the industrial revolution, ending in modern times.  The story was told using specific symbols and references that recall the occult  side of Great Britain.

Green and Pleasant Land

The show begins in pastoral England, complete with farmers and cricket  players. There are also many symbols alluding to its ancient mystical lore. The  focal point of the show is a hill that is said to have magical properties:  Glastonbury Tor.

The mythical spirally hill named Glastonbury Tor  overlooks pastoral England. This recreation of the Tor is topped by a giant oak  tree, a tree considered sacred by Celtic Druids and representative of the  Supreme Deity.

Glastonbury Tor is one of the oldest sacred sites in England. Believed to be  at the intersection of powerful ley lines, the Tor is related to many mystical  stories and legends. For instance, it is thought to be Avalon from the legend of  King Arthur and his 12 knights, a story that is esoterically associated with the  sun and the twelve signs of the zodiac. Another legend claims that Joseph of  Arimathea, the great uncle of Jesus Christ who was a tin merchant, brought young  Jesus on a trip to Glastonbury. He later came back to the site and threw the  chalice used by Jesus during the last supper (the fabled Holy Grail) in Chalice  Well – an area of Glastonbury said to have magical powers. Archeologists have  also discovered that the construction of the Gastonbury abbey involved sacred  geometry “known by the builders of Egyptian pyramids” and passed down through  societies of stonemasons (the originators of modern Freemasonry).

The “real” Glastonbury Tor, topped by St. Michael’s  Church. The hill is the site of Christian pilgrimages and seasonal rituals  practiced by ritual magicians, witches, pagans, and of various occult and  spiritual festivals.

The presence of Glastonbury Tor in the Olympic stadium provides a  definitively mystical and esoteric undertone to the opening ceremonies.

While countrymen work the land and run around maypoles (which incidentally  bear a cosmic and phallic occult meaning), a young boy in the crowd stands up  and sings part of a classical English hymn, William Blake’s Jerusalem.

William Blake is often described as a “visionary” whose artistic works were  heavily inspired by Druidism, Gnosticism and Freemasonry (his depiction of the “Grand Geometrician” holding a Masonic compass is above the Rockefeller Center in New York). While some of his creations  had Christian connotations, they were often told from a Gnostic and esoteric  point of view. Jerusalem refers to the apocryphal story described above  of Jesus visiting the “green and pleasant land” of Glastonbury with his  great-uncle, Joseph of Arimathea.

And did those feet in ancient time
Walk upon England’s mountains green?
And was the holy Lamb of God
On England’s pleasant pastures seen?
And did the Countenance Divine
Shine forth upon our clouded hills?
And was Jerusalem builded here
Among these dark Satanic Mills?
The poem asks if Jesus walked in England and founded New Jerusalem (as  described in Revelation) among these “dark Satanic Mills”. This enigmatic  expression is said to refer to England’s industrial revolution and the dark  buildings that came with it.
Coincidentally, the next part of the opening ceremonies describe just that:  The construction of “dark Satanic Mills”.
.

The Industrial Revolution

After the singing of the hymns, men in top hats, enter England’s Green and  Pleasant land and bring about important change.

The men in top hats survey the land and shake each  hands. This small elite group will coordinate the industrial revolution and get  the masses to work.

The top-hat guys are lead by civil engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel, who  stands at the base of the Tor and give a speech quoting Shakespeare’s The  Tempest. The oak tree then rises from the ground and hundreds of workers  emerge from under the Tor and begin transforming England’s landscape.

At this point, there are a few facts that deserve to be pointed out. First,  the legend of King Arthur stipulates that the top of the Tor provided entrance  to Annwn, the ancient word for the Underworld. Second, the official name of the  segment about the industrial revolution is Pandemonium, which is the  name of the capital of Hell in Milton’s classical work Paradise Lost.  These clues indicate that London did not become New Jerusalem (a metaphor for  heaven) as stated by Blake’s hymn, but literally hell on earth. And all of this  pandemonium was brought about by a handful of elite men who got thousands of  workers apparently emerge from the underworld and build industrial England.

Peasants of the country worked in hellish conditions  to bring to reality the elite’s vision.

It is now an established fact that the bringing down of monarchies and the  push for industrial revolution during the 18th century was heavily influenced by  Secret Societies such as the Grand Orient Freemasons and the Bavarian  Illuminati, who called for an “unshackling of science” and a “new age of  Reason”. The men in top hats coordinating the transformation can therefore be  associated with the secretive groups that historically engendered a new  economic, political and social system during the 18th Century.

The unfolding of “Pandemonium” is depicted using two  very distinct groups: Elite “thinkers” who decide and oversee the project and “workers” who work in the field and take orders. All of this happens in the  Olympic stadium, which is surrounded by giant triangles with illuminated  capstones – a classic symbol representing an elite ruling above  masses.

The final product of Pandemonium is one big messy  grey mass full of “Satanic mills” and seven phallic chimneys spitting out  smoke.

Leave the Kids Alone

The next important sequence of the ceremony paid tribute to the National  Health Service (NHS) and Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH). The set combined  sick kids on hospital beds with characters from English children’s literature  and had a very strange and dark undertone from the start, when it began with the  theme from The Exorcist, which is, in case you don’t know, a movie  about a child possessed by the Devil. Odd choice.

The sequence begins with children on hospital beds who get put to sleep by  nurses. Then J.K. Rowling appears and reads a quote from Peter Pan alluding to  Neverland, which becomes real in the “two minutes before you go to sleep”. I  couldn’t say if that was done on purpose, but many elements of this set, mostly  the mix of vulnerable children in a hospital with fairy tales and the concept of  blurring the lines between reality and fiction, are all associated with mind  control programming. Like the Wizard of Oz and Alice of  Wonderland, the story of Peter Pan is heavily used in mind control  programming as victims are told to escape to “Neverland” while inducing  dissociation from reality.

A child reading Peter Pan. On the page, we see a  scary Captain Hook standing next to … a kid strapped to a bed? According to  Franz Springmeier, Monarch programming uses a technique called “Peter Pan  Programming”, in which Captain Hook represents the handler.

After J.K. Rowling’s appearance, hordes of ghouls and villains from English  literature enter the stage, running after the children and scaring the crap out  of them.

As if under the spell of this gigantic figure of Lord  Voldemort, this young girl’s bed hovers high above the ground. Does this  represent dissociation engendered by intense trauma?

While the evil characters run after the children, the nurses are completely  immobile and powerless as if declaring “Health workers can do nothing when the  elite’s mind control is happening behind closed doors”.

Luckily, a whole bunch of Mary Poppins fly down and shoo away the scary  characters. Then, a rather creepy giant baby appears on stage.

Is it just me or does the giant baby have a big “separation” on the forehead?

The odd combination of children in a hospital and fairy tales might have been  a clever way to combine two important aspects of British culture. It can also be  a sick way of referring to Monarch mind control. On that note, let’s bring out  Mr. Bean!

Abide With Me

Right before the Parade of Nations, the ceremony presented a dark segment  that confused and disturbed more than a few viewers. Supposedly dedicated to  victims of the 7/7 London Bombings, it had the feel of a dark ritual. Also, once  again, we see an innocent child being preyed upon by dark forces. Despite the  fact that the Christian hymn Abide With Me was playing in the  background, the performance had an eerie feel, as if we were witnessing some  kind of occult child sacrifice.

The set begins with a group of performers feverishly dancing under a giant  orange ball resembling the sun orb. Then a young boy appears, looking somewhat  lost and confused. One of the dancers approach the boy and looks to take  something precious from him.

The dancer takes from the young boy an imaginary  ball, which can represent his life force or maybe his soul.

Once the dancer takes the child’s soul, he taunts him with it and takes it  away from him. The boy attempts to take it back but it is no use, he cannot do  it. Apparently drained and resigned, the boy embraces the dancer who stole his  soul.

The boy hugs the man who preyed on him and is  ultimately integrated into the “dark side”.

At the end of the set, the child is at the center of the dancers and raises  his hands in the air as if saying “I am reborn with the dark side”. On that  creepy, disturbing note, let’s bring out the athletes!

Nations and Flames

As it is always the case, the Parade of Nations is done in a very orderly  manner, with each country entering the stadium separately, in alphabetical order  (we’ll see how it contrasts with the closing ceremony). Each flag was then  placed at the feet of the Tor and the magical oak tree.

Once that was accomplished, the ceremony then focused on the almighty torch  and the “fire that never dies”. The occult symbolism behind the torch bearer  carrying the Olympic flame was discussed in my article  London 2012: The Olympic torch relay and Prometheus so I  won’t dwell on that aspect, though it is very significant.

The show ended with the lighting of the Olympic cauldron which was composed  of petals representing each nation present during the Olympics.

Viewed from above, the Olympic Stadium resembled a  gigantic eye whose pupil was being lit.

Combined with the ever-present pyramidal structures around the Stadium, the  the event became one big tribute to the Illuminati elite. Two weeks later, the  closing ceremony took the Illuminati symbolism to another level.

The Closing Ceremony

Contrary to the opening ceremony that reflected on the past, the closing  ceremony looked towards the future … as envisioned by the elite. Not unlike the  opening ceremony, it featured a whole lot of British music and I am pretty sure  that record companies paid top dollar to have their artists perform on this  unique world stage. I’ll skip the music performances and focus on the core  message of the closing ceremony: Celebrating the Illuminati’s New World  Order.

Praise Illuminati

Contrarily to the opening ceremony, the closing ceremony was all about  nations blending together into one giant global community – one of the goals of  the New World Order. While, at the beginning of the games, athletes entered the  stadium behind their national flag and a banner bearing the name of their  countries, all of that was gone at closing ceremony. Everyone was mixed  together.

We then witnessed a weird segment.

Performers used blocks to build a pyramid at the  center of the stage…and began literally revering it.

“We all lay down before the almighty Illuminati  pyramid”. This Illuminati blatant-ness lasted several odd minutes.

Imagine

Musical performances began with a specific song, John Lennon’s Imagine, and a specific verse from it - which was considered,  by some observers, to be somewhat out of place in the context of the Olympic  ceremony.

As if to emphasize the words said in that verse, John  Lennon was shown singing it.

Imagine there’s no countries It isn’t hard to do Nothing to kill or die for And no religion too   Imagine all the people living life in peace

You, you may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only  one I hope some day you’ll join us And the world will  be as one

Imagine no possessions I wonder if you can No  need for greed or hunger A brotherhood of man Imagine all the people sharing all the world

Under the cauldron representing all countries joined  together “as one”, young children sing Imagine.

In the context of the Olympics, where people come from all countries and all  religions, this verse was a little out of place. More importantly, no countries,  no religions, no possessions and “a world as one” is a good way to describe the  global socialist system the elite is trying to create with the New World Order.  Was Lennon envisioning a secretive group of politicians and bankers creating his  perfect world? Probably not. But when you get killed by a MK-Ultra patsy, the  elite can pretty do what it wants with your work and image.

Let’s Worship the Fire for, Like, a Half an Hour

After a bunch of performances (featuring a whole lot of Jessie J for some  reason), the ceremony heavily focused on the Olympic cauldron. Before it is  extinguished, it slightly opens up and a fiery phoenix appears above it.

As if emerging from the fire produced by the petals  (representing Nations of the world), a phoenix appears above the  cauldron.

The symbol of the phoenix, the bird that is reborn from its ashes, is  extremely important to occult secret societies and, consequently, to the occult  elite.

“The phoenix is the most celebrated of all the symbolic creatures  fabricated by the ancient Mysteries for the purpose of concealing the great  truths of esoteric philosophy. (…) Mediæval Hermetists regarded the phoenix as a  symbol of the accomplishment of alchemical transmutation, a process equivalent  to human regeneration. The name phoenix was also given to one of the secret  alchemical formula. (…) In the Mysteries it was customary to refer to initiates  as phoenixes or men who had been born again, for just as physical birth gives  man consciousness in the physical world, so the neophyte, after nine degrees in  the womb of the Mysteries, was born into a consciousness of the Spiritual world.  This is the mystery of initiation to which Christ referred when he said, “Except  a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God” (John iii. 3). The  phoenix is a fitting symbol of this spiritual truth.” – Manly P. Hall,  Secret Teachings of All Ages

While the phoenix represents spiritual rebirth on an individual level, it can  also represent the rebirth of the entire world from its ashes – as a New World  Order.

This gigantic mural situated inside the UN’s Security  Council Chamber in New York features a phoenix rising from a world in  ashes.

Right after the apparition of the phoenix above the Olympic cauldron, the boy  band Take That performed a song with a rather symbolic title, considering the  context: Rule The World.

With a phoenix rising above all nations as a  backdrop, Take That sings “Rule the World”. This is getting pretty  blatant.

After the song, a bunch of ballet dancers dressed as phoenixes hopped around,  as if revering and giving tribute to the fiery bird above them.

Praising the phoenix in a ritualistic and celebratory  manner.

At midnight, the Olympic cauldron and the petals representing each country  are slowly extinguished, but the phoenix, representing the occult elite and the  New World Order, stays lit above it. In other words, as the nations of the world  slowly disappear, a New World Order will emerge. On that note, let’s listen to  The Who!

In Conclusion

Olympic Ceremonies traditionally showcase the host Nation’s history and  culture, but also celebrates those behind the games: the occult elite. Since  London is a power capital of the world with a rich occult history ranging from  the Knight Templars to influential Masonic lodges, and not forgetting prominent  occultists advising the royals such as John Dee and Sir Francis Bacon, is it  surprising to see this aspect of History being referred to in a symbolic  matter?

While obviously not everything during Olympic ceremonies related to  Illuminati symbolism, there were plenty of elements inserted throughout to get  the message across. In the end, the Olympic games, like many other media events,  turned into a worldwide mega ritual celebrating the goals and the symbolism of  the world elite. On that note, let’s bring out the Spice Girls!

LONDON 2012: THE OLYMPIC TORCH RELAY AND PROMETHEUS
.

“>

London is getting ready for the 2012 Summer Olympics and the Olympic torch  relay will begin on May 18th 2012. This ceremonial event, where people from all  walks of life carry the Olympic torch across the host country, is particularly  symbolic to those who began this Olympic traditions.

In Greek mythology, the original “torch-bearer” was Prometheus, the Titan who  stole fire from the gods in order to give it to humanity. Fire was considered by  ancients as being a tiny spark of the sun, which was considered to be the  physical manifestation of deity (see Sun Worship). By bringing fire to mankind,  Prometheus has therefore enabled humans to partake in “all things divine” and  even allowed them to aspire to become gods themselves. For this reason,  Prometheus is particularly revered in secret societies, as his myth is the  ultimate representation of the philosophy and the goals of mystery schools:  ascension towards divinity and immortality through man’s own means.

“>

In esoteric teachings, the act of “carrying the torch” is symbolic of man’s  awareness of his own “divine spark” and represents his aspiration to become “one  of the gods”. This is, in a nutshell, the core philosophy of the world’s elite,  which is heavily influenced by the hermetic teachings of Freemasonry,  Rosicrucianism and Illuminism. For this reason, Prometheus’ Torch of  Illumination is often found in the occult elite’s symbolism.

“>

“>

“>

The myth of Prometheus is, in many ways, similar to  the myth of Lucifer – whose name is Latin for “Light Bearer”. Since Lucifer fell  from Heaven to the earthly realm – bringing with him “the light of Illumination”  – he is considered in occult schools to be the Bringer of Light, of the Morning  Star, of intellectualism and of enlightenment.

Since the Torch of Enlightenment is the main symbol  representing the elite’s philosophy, is it surprising to find it prominently  featured in a ritual opening the world’s grandest sporting event?

In the Olympics

“>

The first relaying of the Olympic torch was held at the 1936 Berlin Olympics,  during the Nazi Regime. Despite the fact that Hitler banned Masonic  organizations from Germany (he identified them as servants of the Jews), his  regime was nevertheless inspired and deeply steeped in by secret societies. He  had a great respect for the symbolism and the constitution of secret  societies.

“All the supposed abominations, the skeletons and death’s heads, the  coffins and the mysteries, are mere bogeys for children. But there is one  dangerous element and that is the element I have copied from them. They form a  sort of priestly nobility. They have developed an esoteric doctrine not merely  formulated, but imparted through the symbols and mysteries in degrees of  initiation. The hierarchical organization and the initiation through symbolic  rites, that is to say, without bothering the brain but by working on the  imagination through magic and the symbols of a cult, all this has a dangerous  element, and the element I have taken over. Don’t you see that our party must be  of this character…? An Order, that is what it has to be — an Order, the  hierarchial Order of a secular priesthood… Ourselves or the Freemasons or the  Church — there is room for one of the three and no more… We are the strongest of  the three and shall get rid of the other two.” – Hermann Rauschning, “Hitler Speaks”

The Nazi Party was heavily influenced by Germanic mysticism. Several members  of the Party were part of the Thule Society – an occult secret society based in  Munich. Despite its outward differences with other secret societies such as  Freemasonry, in the end of the day, when all is said and done, all of the  inner-most teachings of these society are pretty much the same.

“>

Since “occult minds think alike” the torch relay became part of the Olympic  tradition. So, every two years, entire countries gather and celebrate the  passing of Prometheus torch, which  can only be lit by the ultimate source:  the sun – symbol of the deity.

Since most people who assist to these torch relays – including the torch  carriers themsevles- know nothing about the occult meaning of the event, the  carrying of the Olympic torch remains a stunning example of the elite’s rituals  and philosophy being celebrated in front of a dumbfounded crowd. Clapping for  and cheering their local light-bearing Lucifer, the masses celebrate, once  again, the extent of their own ignorance.

Other Illuminati symbolism in the 2012 Olympics:

“>

“>

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Here’s a recent BBC article celebrating the torch relay and describing some  of its history:
London 2012: What is the Olympic torch relay?
“It is an utterly thrilling thing to do,” says Philip Barker.
The Olympic historian and author has a lump in the throat just at the memory  of running, torch clasped in his hand, high in the Taygetos mountains above  Sparta, Greece.
He was a part of the torch relay, the human-powered running feat that bore  the flame on its journey from its source, Olympia, to the Atlanta Games in  1996.
From 18 May 2012 the Olympic torch relay will tour the UK in the run up to  the London Games – taking 70 days, with about 8,000 torchbearers.
Organisers say 95% of the country’s population should be within one hour of  the route which will end with the lighting of the cauldron during the opening  ceremony in the Olympic stadium, Stratford.
They hope that the emotion felt by Philip Barker will be shared by the nation  and among crowds lining the route.
But how did the Olympic Games come to have this almost cultish following of a  naked flame?
The perception of the torch relay is that it’s a contemporary re-enactment of  an ancient Greek tradition.
In reality, it is a phenomenon just of the modern Olympics, only beginning in  the 1936 Summer Games in Berlin, and for the Winter Games at Oslo in 1952.
But the idea is rooted in a mash-up of Greek myths, thought to date from  around the 6th-5th centuries BC.
The stories concern Prometheus. He was a Titan and “friend to man” who stole  fire, a sacred element, disguised inside a narthex stalk (a kind of giant  fennel) from Zeus, the father of the Gods, and gave it to mortals.
“>
The ancient Greeks had Lampadedromia – torch  relay races – where the winning team lit a sacred flame, possibly as part of the  cult worship of Prometheus and his defiance of the gods to impart knowledge to  mortals. The modern relay has a nod to the flame-kindling vestal virgins from  the rival Roman civilisation thrown in.
It also conjures the spirit of the “sacred truce”, a peace declared across  ancient Greece in the months before an Olympic Games and communicated by runners  who travelled the country.
As University of Oxford classicist Cressida Ryan puts it: “It’s an amalgam of  bits of mythology.
“Agreeing on the facts doesn’t really matter, it’s too long ago to know.  Today it is used as a force for good – someone has taken an idea and run with  it.”
An Olympic flame first burned at the Amsterdam  Games, 1928, but it was not until 1936 that a relay with a torch took shape,  under the Nazi regime and sports organiser Carl Diem.
A flame was kindled in Olympia using the sun and a parabolic mirror, then  carried to the Berlin stadium by runners through Bulgaria, Yugoslavia, Hungary,  Austria and Czechoslovakia – countries that later would fall under Nazi  domination.
Fire was a symbol of Hitler’s regime, and torchlight processions were a  feature. The leadership aimed to draw a direct link back to ancient  civilisation. As Ryan explains: “They wanted a symbolic bridge between ancient  Greece and modern Germany. And light is a symbol of purity – the bright, white,  pure, stunning light of the ancient Greeks was something that fed into the Aryan  myth.”
Adolf Hitler’s favoured filmmaker Leni Riefenstahl captured that myth,  documenting the event for her 1938 film Olympia.
Post-war, for the 1948 London Olympics, organisers embraced the idea of the  torch relay. Despite the austere times, the torch was mobbed by crowds along the  route.
Since then, the torch has enjoyed a mostly high  old time, every four, and latterly two, years, changing design with each Olympic  host city and each decade’s trends.
The relay has sometimes gone with a theme – Rome 1960: The Ancient Relay;  Mexico City ’68: The Relay to the New World; Seoul ’88: Harmony and  Progress.
The modes of transportation have become ever-more outlandish – on skis, Oslo  1952; Skidoo, Calgary ’88; and ski-jumper, Lillehammer ’94.
The torch has taken to the water with swimmers, in Veracruz, Mexico, ’68 and  in Marseilles, France for Grenoble ’68 as well as underwater at the Great  Barrier Reef for Sydney 2000.
It has taken to the skies – on Concorde, Albertville ’92; via satellite,  Montreal ’76; parachute, Lillehammer ’94. And the torch, without flame, has been  into space, twice, ahead of Atlanta ’96 and Sydney 2000.
Canoes, steamboats, wagons, horses, camels and many sportspeople and  celebrities have also played their part.
It has also drawn protest, most prominently from  pro-Tibet and human rights campaigners in many countries when it was flanked by  Chinese bodyguards in its round-the-world-tour ahead of Beijing 2008.
And until at least the 1950s, it was rather a sexist torch – no women were  allowed to take part.
The flame is sometimes accidentally extinguished en route, apparently “more  often than they like to let on,” says Barker.
In case of such an event, it can be re-lit with special back-up flames from  Olympia carried with the relay, often in miners’-style lamps.
Should a cloudy day threaten the initial ceremony when women kindle the flame  from the Sun at Olympia, there are also a series of flames kept in reserve from  the “practice kindles” in the days leading up to the televised event. The torch  has been used to light the cauldron by sporting legends like Muhammad Ali, by  athlete Li Ning suspended on wires, by paralympic archer Antonio Rebollo and as  fire amid water by runner Cathy Freeman.
“>
It is all part of the facade that Olympic-minded historians say stokes  enthusiasm for a positive sporting event, often among people who cannot be at  the Games themselves.
The founder of the modern Olympic movement, Pierre de Coubertin hoped the  Olympic torch would “pursue its way through ages, increasing friendly  understanding among nations, for the good of a humanity always more  enthusiastic, more courageous and more pure.”
Thirty Olympiads on, for carriers like Barker, that symbolism is key.
“When it is your turn to carry the flame, you think emotional thoughts, think  of people who have competed in the Olympics, Jesse Owens, great heroes like  Steve Redgrave,” he says.
“You feel part of that because you’re helping take the flame to the stadium.  It was extremely special, very emotional.”
The ancient Greeks opened their Olympics by word of mouth, sending heralds, not torchbearers, through the streets. Hitler introduced the torchbearer Greek myth at the Berlin Olympics in 1938. Hitler had the support of big banksters – one mightn’t be surprised if it was revealed that the London Olympics was bought and paid for by the Rothchilds.
Now that the ‘Ship of Fools’ is safe in Antarctica, tough questions need to be asked (who pays the piper?)
Since the Guardian reporters shown above probably won’t do anything but complain about beds and lack of milkshakes (that video has now been “disappeared”)  while writing glowing reports about the “adventure” of it all, it will be left to others to ask the tough questions. Now that they are on their way to Casey Station in Antarctica, Andrew Bolt starts off with these questions. I have a few of my own.
  1. Who paid for this expedition?
  2. How did the expedition team come to include Turney’s wife and two young children?
  3. How serious was this scientific endeavor?
  4. Was the choice of ship wise, given it is not an icebreaker?
  5. How did the ship, in these days of satellite imaging, high quality weather forecasts and radar, come to get stuck in ice?
  6. How much did the rescue cost?
  7. Who pays for this rescue?
  8. Why have the ABC and Fairfax media, so keen at first to announce this expedition was to measure the extent and effects of global warming, since omitted that fact from their reports after the expedition became ice-bound?
  9. Why have all those reports – and the expedition leader himself – neglected to mention that sea ice around Antarctica has increased over the past three decades – and is greater than the ice cover Douglas Mawson found a century ago?
I have these questions:
  1. Who pays for the trip back to Australia once they get let off at Casey Station?
  2. How much damage has this fiasco done to real science expeditions in Antarctica, not only from a delayed logistics standpoint, but also from PR standpoint?
  3. Why did the stranded ship reach out for weather forecasts and data when they should have been equipped for this in the first place?
  4. Who will be responsible if the ship ends up being stuck in ice permanently or gets its hull crushed and sinks?
  5. What will be the duties and  fate of the crew left behind?
  6. Who funded the ARGO ATV’s after Turney’s Indiegogo crowdsourcing campaign failed miserably? Do those people get a refund?
  7. Why would Turney book this ship when it has only the barest of ratings for sea ice?
UL = Ice strengthening notation of the ship (independent navigation in the Arctic in summer and autumn in light ice conditions and in the non-arctic freezing seas all the year round)  More on ratings here: http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/icebreakers-class.htm
8. Was Turney misleading about the intensity of the ice by his own beliefs that Antarctic sea ice was melting?
9. Did the sightseeing excursion to Mawson’s Huts on December 19th and again on Dec 23rd (apparently to Mertz Glacier, though their blog and “tracker” are unclear on this point) cause delays that caused the ship to be trapped in rapidly changing weather which closed the sea ice around them?
10. Apparently the crew of the Akademik Shokalskiy spoke next to zero English, did this communications barrier contribute to the situation? Was Turney warned that the weather and wind were changing while the second Mawson’s Huts sightseeing tour was in progress, and if he was were those warnings understood/heeded?
11. Why did the ship have a mix of tourists and media when it was pitched as a “scientific expedition”?
5 Nov: ABC Lateline: $1.5 million Australian expedition to Antarctica Professor Chris Turney from the University of NSW is mounting the largest Australian science expeditions to the Antarctic with an 85-person team to try to answer questions about how climate change in the frozen continent might be already shifting weather patterns in Australia.
All 52 passengers rescued from ship trapped in Antarctic ice
“Sydney — All 52 passengers who spent Christmas and New Year trapped on an icebound Russian research vessel in Antarctica were airlifted from the ice Thursday in a dramatic rescue mission.
A Chinese helicopter which landed on a makeshift landing pad next to the marooned ship ferried the scientists, tourists and journalists in groups of 12 to an Australian government supply ship, the Aurora Australis.
The passengers had been stuck for 10 days in thick pack ice ………..
Who Pays For The Rescue?
December 30, 2013
By Paul Homewood
http://www.theage.com.au/travel/travel-incidents/rescue-of-icedin-ship-could-cost-owners-a-packet-20131229-301t1.html
Who pays for the rescue of the Akademik Shokalskiy? According to the Age:
The operators of a ship stricken in the southern ocean are facing a multimillion-dollar expense bill, as a third vessel began a rescue attempt five days after the tourist ship became trapped in sea ice.
Under the Treaty of the Safety of Life at Sea, vessels are required to respond to a distress message, with the costs incurred a matter for the ship owners after the event, the AMSA said.
These can include fuel costs, crew costs and loss of revenue.
According to Wiki, the Akademik is owned by the Russian Federation, through the Far Eastern Hydrometeorological Research Institute, Vladivostok. But it has been chartered by the Australasian Antarctic Expedition 2013/14, so it is not clear who will be responsible for the costs. It may depend on the terms of the charter.
The Expedition has been funded by a number of organisations, including:
University of NSW
Australian Govt Research Council
New Zealand Govt – Dept of Conservation
University of Exeter (UK)
US Antarctic Program
University of Waikato
University of Wollongong
The Guardian Newspaper Slams Funding of Anti-Global Warming Groups
By Alan Caruba Thursday, January 2, 2014
The Guardian, a London-based daily newspaper, has been a leading advocate of the global warming theory—now called climate change—and its December 20 edition published an article by Susanne Goldenberg, “Conservative groups spend up to $1bn a year to fight action on climate change.”
The article focused on a study by Drexel University sociologist Robert Brulle that had been published in the journal Climate Change asserting that “The anti-climate effort has been largely underwritten by conservative billionaires, often working through secretive funding networks. They have displaced corporations as the prime supporters of 91 think tanks, advocacy groups and industry associations which have worked to block action on climate change.”
What action these organizations or even entire governments could take to have any affect whatever on “climate change” defies common sense. Nothing they could do, for example, would have any effect on the action of the Sun, the primary determinant of climate. For the past seventeen years the Sun has been in a natural cycle of reduced radiation, less warmth for the Earth. The result has been a cooling cycle on Earth that has crushed decades of lies about “global warming.”
It’s not that the Earth hasn’t had previous cycles of warmer climate, but they had nothing to do with anything humans do. There was warming before the Industrial Revolution introduced the use of coal, oil and natural gas to provide the energy that has marked the development and use of technologies that have improved human life in countless ways. “Global warming” is blamed on the emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) and other so-called greenhouse gases. The most prominent of these gases in the Earth’s atmosphere is nothing more than water vapor.
Apparently, if Brulle and The Guardian are to be believed, anyone or any organization that donates to any group that doubts the claims of Big Green are the enemies of “global warming”, but this conveniently ignored estimates that the U.S. government, according to an October article in The New American “will spend more money on fighting global warming than it will on tightening border security.” The spending is estimated to cost approximately $22.2 billion this year, twice as much as the $12 billion estimated for customs and border enforcement.”
There are, according to the White House, “currently 18 federal agencies engaged in activities related to global warming. These agencies fund programs that include scientific research, international climate assistance, renewable energy technology, and subsidies for renewable energy producers.”
The Guardian article caught my eye because, among the organizations that have been active in debunking the “global warming” theory has been The Heartland Institute. I have been an advisor to the Institute which, since 2008, has organized eight international conferences on global warming that have featured some of the world’s leading skeptics.
If you want to know how the Institute is funded, you can go to their website where you will find, for example, that it does not solicit or accept grants from any of those government agencies using billions of taxpayer dollars to convince Americans that “global warming” is real or that anything the government does about “climate change” can have any effect on it. In 2012, Heartland received 50% of its income from foundations, 28% from individuals, and 18% from corporations. No corporate donor contributes more than 5% of its annual budget.
In contrast, a recent article by Ron Arnold, a Washington Examiner columnist and executive vice president of the Center for the Defense of Free Enterprise, noted that over the past decade environmental organizations received 345,052 foundation grants totaling $20,826,664,000—over twenty billion dollars—largely from a 200-plus member Environmental Grantmakers Association and the smaller, farther-left National Network of Grantmakers. Arnold said that “Today, foundations are the backbone of Big Green.”
On a recent CNN television program, Marc Morano, the communications director of the Committee for a Constructive Tomorrow (CFACT) took on the Sierra Club director, noting that this major environmental organization has received $26 million from natural gas corporations to support its attacks on the coal industry. So “fossil fuels” industries are okay if they are giving the Sierra Club money.
“So record cold,” said Morano, “is now evidence of man-made global warming.”
While the Koch-affiliated foundations that provide grants to conservative groups were singled out, along with Exxon Mobil, in The Guardian article, no mention was made of multi-billionaire George Soros who is famed for funding all manner of liberal groups and who reportedly has invested heavily in “clean energy” companies—solar and wind—whose products do not produce the so-called greenhouse gas emissions.
One of the more recent articles in The Guardian was titled “Global warming will intensify drought, says new study.”  The problem, of course, is that there is NO global warming.
By contrast, a July Fox News article, “Billions spent in Obama climate plan may be virtually useless, study says” was not also reported in the mainstream media. Suffice to say that those billions came from taxpayer’s pockets.
I am happy to know that the Heartland Institute, a 29-year-old non-profit research organization, CFACT, and other free market research and activist groups receive foundation and other support. Without them, the lies about “climate change” from the Obama administration and the many environmental organizations would not be debunked. © Alan Caruba, 2014
The Guardian -> taxpayer money okay – private money not okay (unless it’s rich institutions like the Sierra Club, or bankster gangsters like George Soros – Rothchild agent, Al Gore – whores for anyone, Maurice Strong – Rockefeller agent, et al).
It’s ironic how these academic, tourists and media Warmists who hate fossil fuels, take a trip to the Antarctic to show just how horrible fossil-fueled climate change is, then need rescue from their fossil-fueled trip by other fossil-fueled ships and helicopters, which still can’t rescue them because of the ice. The Australian Warmist scientist Chris Torney said – ‘We Got Stuck In Our Own Experiment” – couldn’t have phrased it better myself. He also said there were icebergs around but ‘the ships in a poor position’! heh
BTW, isn’t the Guardian the paper who prides itself on having their retirement in Green and Global Warming stocks?
Frozen Out: 98% of Stories Ignore That Ice-bound Ship Was On Global Warming Mission
By Mike Ciandella | January 2, 2014
A group of climate change scientists were rescued by helicopter  Jan. 2, after being stranded in the ice since Christmas morning. But the  majority of the broadcast networks’ reports about the ice-locked climate  researchers never mentioned climate change.
The Russian ship, Akademic Shokalskiy, was stranded in the ice  while on a climate change research expedition, yet nearly 98 percent of network  news reports about the stranded researchers failed to mention their mission at  all. Forty out of 41 stories (97.5 percent) on the network morning and evening  news shows since Dec. 25 failed to mention climate change had anything to do  with the expedition.
In fact, rather than point out the mission was to find evidence of  climate change, the networks often referred to the stranded people as “passengers,” “trackers” and even “tourists,” without a word about climate  change or global warming.
Chris Turney, the expedition’s leader, is a professor  of climate change at the University of South Wales. According to  Turney’s personal website, the  purpose of the  expedition is to “discover and communicate the environmental changes  taking place in the south.”
Twenty-two crew members stayed with the ship for the time being, as  the scientists and researchers were rescued. According to CNN,  the ship has enough supplies for “a very long time.”
Three rescue attempts had been thwarted by growing levels of sea  ice and weather conditions.
“Outside, blizzard conditions packing an abnormal amount of ice in  to the area for this time of the year, summer in the Antarctic,” ABC News  Correspondent Gio Benitez reported on “Good Morning America” Dec. 31.
On Jan. 2, all 52 passengers were airlifted to a nearby Australian  icebreaker ship which had tried, and failed, to plow through the ice and free  the Akademic Shokalskiy, on Dec. 30. “Good Morning America” said on Dec. 30,  that “the ice could be as thick as 13 feet.”
According to Fox  News, Turney admitted “we’re stuck in our own experiment.” They reported on  Dec. 30, that a statement from the Australasian Antarctic Expedition said, “Sea  ice is disappearing due to climate change, but here ice is building up.”
There was only one news story out of 41 that mentioned climate  change. That was CBS “This Morning” Dec. 30. “Despite being frozen at a  standstill, the team’s research on climate change and Antarctic wildlife is  moving forward,” CBS News Correspondent Don Dahler said. That night, all  three evening news programs still failed to make any mention of the group’s  climate change research.
The MRC’s Business and Media Institute was unable to view a copy  of CBS “Sunday Morning” for Dec. 29, so that broadcast had to be excluded from  the tally.
Before their ship got stuck in ice, the researchers were following  the trail of the explorer Douglas  Mawson, who was stranded in Antarctica for more than a year, beginning in  December 1912, according to the website about the expedition.
Perhaps these sixty one Warmist scientists thought that by going in the middle of summer it would show some natural summertime warming for propaganda purposes to freak out the less informed. It would have been worth the over $million they spent…now it’s going to be billions and on top of that they don’t have much of a story except the rescue from ice story which has pretty much been told. But that won’t stop their very lucrative, in your face lying, Algore rhythms.
bbc.co.uk January 4, 2014
The Russian authorities are to set up a special zone for protest rallies at the Sochi Winter Olympics, where security will be tight.
A special security regime will be in place in and around the southern city from 7 January until 21 March.
The authorities announced last year that a ban on rallies would be imposed in the Games area.
But a decree now says protests during the Games in February can be held if agreed with the authorities.
John Stossel Blogs about (Un)free Speech Zones
December 1, 2011
by Peter Bonilla
Fox Business Network host John Stossel returned to the topic of free speech on college campuses yesterday with a brief blog entry at his website, prompted by a picture sent in by one of his readers of a “Free Speech Area” at California State University-Chico. The reader notes, “I thought it was ironic to have a ‘Free Speech Area’ with this notice about restrictions.” You don’t say:
So here we have a “Free Speech Area,” which is made less free by subjecting pretty much anything you would want to do in it to “regulation.” As Stossel quips, “What can students do at free speech zones? Apparently, not very much.”
Stossel also notes that CSU Chico’s sexual harassment policy received the dishonor of being FIRE’s March 2011 Speech Code of the Month for, among other things, its prohibition of “stereotyped generalizations.” All certainly does not appear well for free speech at CSU Chico.
Thanks to John Stossel for continuing to bring attention to the abuses of free speech on our nation’s campuses. If you missed FIRE’s recent appearance on Stossel, be sure to check it out at his website. -
Free Speech Zones were initially started by Academia: “Many colleges and universities earlier instituted free speech zone rules during the Vietnam-era protests of the 1960s and 1970s.”
Benghazi Video: Was the Arabic man in this video speaking English to the NY Times Reporter? (tweet by Fitzpatrick)
 ”Kirkpatrick tweeted Monday night that the Times had “a reporter on the scene talking to the attackers during the attack.”"
القنصلية الامريكية في بنغازي بعد الهجوم ومقتل سفيرها
.
At the 5 mark, a guy with an Arabic accent says in English to someone on his right, ”I bet they kill him”, as people are heading into the bldg. A shot is soon heard at the 15 mark and at 1:00, towards the end of the video. The video is somehow spliced towards the end. There is a white extended cab truck with people leaving the flaming building to get in. It first shows at about the 11 mark, then there’s another gunshot right after at the 15 mark. The same video shot shows up again at the 1:18 mark and a gunshot at the 1:23 mark.
.
The man who said “I’ll bet they kill him” was obviously speaking in English for the benefit of English speaking people present and since this video was downloaded by RT Arabic there wouldn’t be a reason for English. I’ve often wondered who the man was speaking to in English. Was he speaking in English to the NY Times reporter Fitzpatrick mentioned in his tweet?
New York Times Had Reporter ‘Talking to the Attackers’ During Benghazi Massacre
by  Tony Lee 31 Dec 2013
The New York Times had a reporter talking to attackers on the ground during the Benghazi attacks that killed four Americans in September of 2012, including U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens, and that reporter may know the identity of some of the murderers and perpetrators.
David Kirkpatrick is the Times reporter who wrote the story that forced the paper’s Editorial page editor to defensively declare on Monday that it has not chosen to endorse Hillary Clinton for president in 2016. The editor said that the paper had a reporter on the ground who was witnessing the attacks.
That admission is even in Kirpatrick’s story, which, as Breitbart News reported, has received considerable blowback for attempting to “whitewash the Benghazi tragedy.” The Times alleges that there was no al-Qaeda involvement in the attacks that killed four Americans (contradicting the paper’s own reporting), that murdered U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens had “little understanding” of the region, and that the terrorists were motivated by an anti-Muhammed YouTube video:
Soon scores, if not hundreds, of others were racing to the scene. Some arrived with guns, some with cameras. The attackers had posted sentries at Venezia Road, adjacent to the compound, to guard their rear flank, but they let pass anyone trying to join the mayhem. Witnesses said young men rushing inside had left empty pickup trucks from Ansar al-Shariah, but also all the other big militias ostensibly allied with the government.
There is no doubt that anger over the video motivated many attackers. A Libyan journalist working for The New York Times was blocked from entering by the sentries outside, and he learned of the film from the fighters who stopped him. Other Libyan witnesses, too, said they received lectures from the attackers about the evil of the film and the virtue of defending the prophet.
Kirkpatrick tweeted Monday night that the Times had “a reporter on the scene talking to the attackers during the attack.” His tweet prompted those on Twitter, including a former U.N. spokesperson for George W. Bush, to wonder if the Times knew who the attackers were and whether the reporter who was on the ground witnessed the murder of a U.S. Ambassador without calling for help:
@RichardGrenell we had a reporter on the scene talking to the attackers during the attack- still invaluable
From the Egyptian Chronicles – Real Time – :
“And the US ambassador in Benghazi Chris Steven was killed after the attack on the consulate late last night in a huge escalation of its kind. Allegedly Conservatives in Benghazi attacked the embassy to object the so-called insulting film. The protest already started in Libya hours after the protest in Cairo and according to some sources including a Jihadist Facebook the attack was actually to avenge for the murder of Abu Yahia , the Libyan who was believed to be the second man in Al Qaeda on the occasion of 9/11. Here is a video showing the Consulate right after the attack on fire. According to reports Chris Steven suffocated from the fire. Two marines were killed in the blaze and not less than 16 were injured. There are photos  for  Steven being dragged out of the embassy !!
I do not know if he was alive or dead. I will not share them. I will not say anything except from theological point of view embassies and diplomats are not to be targeted to attack. What happened is the hugest insult to Islam. Now Russia Today claims that Salafists in Tunisia are calling their supporters to attack and destroy the US embassy. Anyhow the US embassy in Tunisia is said to be heavily secured.”
.
It wasn’t an official USA Embassy. It’s been strategically phrased by Obama, Hillary Clinton, and their administration, as a ”mission” or ”compound”. They’ve been a lot more careful in their wording than the foreign press.
Malaysian Islamic Authorities Seize Bibles as ‘Allah’ Controversy Worsens
$
By  - January 3, 2014Malaysian Islamic authorities have seized more than 300 copies of the Bible from the Bible Society of Malaysia (BSM), over the use of the word “Allah” in native translations.
BSM was accused of violating the law by using the word “Allah” to refer to God in Bahasa and Iban language Bibles.
Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) officers, accompanied by two policemen, raided the Society’s offices and carried away 321 copies of the Bible.
Two members of the BSM council were detained and taken to a local police station, but released later on bail.
The controversy over the word “Allah” goes back to 2008 when The Herald, a Catholic weekly, was barred by the home ministry from using the Arabic word.
Bahasa and Iban language Bibles
Reuters
Two copies of the Bible in Malay (L) and the Iban dialect are seen in this picture illustration taken in Kuala Lumpur January 2, 2014.
The Catholic Church argued that it has used the word to refer to God for centuries and that the home ministry’s ruling violated the believers’ rights.
The Church contested this ‘law’ in the High Court, which ruled in the Church’s favour in 2009 and upheld its constitutional right to use the word.
The decision was challenged in the Court of Appeal, which overturned the earlier judgment and ruled that “Allah was not integral to the Christian faith”, the Malaysian Insider had reported.
The United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), the ruling political party, said that its Jais members would protest at all churches in the state of Selangor against the unauthorised use of the word Allah, according to Reuters.
“There are laws in Selangor and there was a decree by his Royal Highness the Sultan. So what they are doing is carrying out the Sultan’s decree,” said Muhyiddin Yassin, Deputy Prime Minister and UMNO Deputy President.
However, the Bible Society maintains that they have done nothing against the law by using the word “Allah” in local translations.
The Society said the word “Allah” in the Bible “is nothing new and should not come as a surprise, this is what we do, import Bibles containing the word as allowed in the 10-point solution made by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Idris Jala”.
“We were told that we were under investigation for breaking a Selangor state law banning non-Muslims from using the word Allah,” Lee Min Choon, Chairman BSM, told Reuters.
“BSM is of the view that this action contravenes a host of legal provisions, including that of the Federal Constitution. This is a sad day, heralding the erosion of minority rights,” he added.
The Council of Churches of Malaysia said in a statement it was “alarmed” by the raid and urged the government to “protect religious rights as provided under the Federal Constitution”.
The raid is unusual as it was the first time Islamic authorities entered the premises belonging to a Christian organisation to seize Bibles.
Analysts also say the new rulings could be a way of covering up other unpopular measures by Prime Minister Najib Razak’s government, such as subsidy cuts for electricity, petrol and sugar, which are expected to hit the poor in the country.
The recent events have raised concern that Islamic law is gaining dominance over the civil courts in Malaysia.
“The Aramaic word for “God” in the language of Assyrian Christians is ʼĔlāhā, or Alaha. Arabic-speakers of all Abrahamic faiths, including Christians and Jews, use the word “Allah” to mean “God”.[7] The Christian Arabs of today have no other word for “God” than “Allah”.[15] (Even the Arabic-descended Maltese language of Malta, whose population is almost entirely Roman Catholic, uses Alla for “God”.)”
“Some archaeological excavation quests have led to the discovery of ancient Pre-Islamic inscriptions and tombs made by Arabic-speaking Christians in the ruins of a church at Umm el-Jimal in Northern Jordan, which contained references to Allah as the proper name of God, and some of the graves contained names such as “Abd Allah” which means “the servant/slave of Allah”.[39][40][41]
The name Allah can be found countless times in the reports and the lists of names of Christian martyrs in South Arabia, as reported by antique Syriac documents of the names of those martyrs from the era of the Himyarite & Aksumite kingdoms.[42][43]
A Christian leader named Abd Allah ibn Abu Bakr ibn Muhammad was martyred in Najran in 523 AD, and he had worn a ring that said “Allah is my lord”.[43][44]
In an inscription of Christian martyrion dated back to 512 AD, references to Allah can be found in both Arabic and Aramaic, which called him “Allah” and “Alaha”, and the inscription starts with the statement “By the Help of Allah”.[43][45][46]
In Pre-Islamic Gospels, the name used for God was “Allah”, as evidenced by some discovered Arabic versions of the New Testament written by Arab Christians during the Pre-Islamic era in Northern and Southern Arabia.[43][47][48]
Pre-Islamic Arab Christians have been reported to have raised the battle cry “Ya La Ibad Allah” (O servants of Allah) to invoke each other into battle.[49]
“Allah” was also mentioned in pre-Islamic Christian poems by some Ghassanid and Tanukhid poets in Syria and Northern Arabia.[50][51][52]…….”
I sincerely doubt we worship the same Allah, since the God of my understanding is totally different from Mohammeds account, at least from what I’ve read in the Quran.
‘You’re looking at the Antarctic, which is a  challenge in itself. You have weather and you have ice,’ Conroy said in a phone  interview. ‘But our crews are very well trained and we expect to be successful  in this mission.’
The Chinese vessel now had concerns  about  its own ability to move through heavy ice, the Australian Maritime Safety  Authority said.
The Russian-owned research  ship, Akademik Shokalskiy, left New Zealand on  November 28 to commemorate the  100th anniversary of an Antarctic journey led by Australian explorer Douglas  Mawson.
It became trapped on December 24, 100  nautical miles east of French  Antarctic station Dumont d’Urville and about  1,500 nautical miles south  of Tasmania.
During  their time on the ice, passengers  amused themselves with movies, classes in knot tying, languages, yoga and  photography, and rang in the New  Year with dinner, drinks and a song their  adventure.
The Coast Guard’s Polar Star is 399 feet long  with a maximum speed of 18  knots. It can continuously break 6 feet of ice at  three knots, and can  break 21 feet of ice backing and ramming, the Coast Guard  said.
The Polar Star was on a separate mission  before being asked to help the two stuck vessels.
It had left its homeport of Seattle in early December on ‘Operation Deep  Freeze’, to break a channel through the sea ice of  McMurdo Sound in  Antarctica to resupply and refuel the US Antarctic Program’s McMurdo  Station on Ross Island.
The Aurora came within 20 kilometers (12  miles) of the ship Monday, but  fierce winds and snow forced it to retreat to  open water.
The Akademik Shokalskiy, which left New  Zealand on Nov. 28, got stuck  Christmas Eve after a blizzard pushed the sea ice  around the ship,  freezing it in place about 2,700 kilometers (1,700 miles)  south of  Hobart, Tasmania.
The ship isn’t in danger of sinking and has  weeks’ worth of supplies on board, but it cannot move.
The scientific team on board had been  recreating Australian explorer  Douglas Mawson’s 1911 to 1913 voyage to  Antarctica. Turney had hoped to  continue the trip if an icebreaker managed to  free the ship.
And so, this expensive Global Warmist saga continues…will the BBC, Guardian, and their financially well-endowed global warmist bloggers (called “tourists” by the global state media) accompanying them continue their Global Warmist mantra despite not finding a polar bear stuck on a tiny ice sheet? Yes, they’ll continue to lie and some people will continue to believe them…follow the money.
Meanwhile the taxpayers will pay for the global warmist bloggers (tourists) expensive “global warmist” escapade!!! The Big Business Taxfree Foundations (Soros et al) will continue to fund “academia”, “newsmedia” along with their essential bloggers monthly salary.. All they have to do is promote that when ice melts, it’s because of the climate, and when water freezes, it’s  because of the weather. Nice gig if  you can get it - so long as you have no qualms in lying.
Till the cows come home: Irish farmers milk the selfie trend
James EngNBC News
Life on the farm isn’t immune from the year of the selfie. Irish farmer P.J. Ryan is proof of that.
The Newport, County Tipperary resident was the runaway winner of this month’s “Selfie on the Farm” competition hosted on Facebook by the Irish Farmers Journal. His self-taken portrait of himself giving a thumbs-up in front of a herd of Saler cattle garnered more than 1,600 “likes” — far more than any of the other nine finalists.
The winning photo was submitted by one of his daughters, Aisling Ryan, who wrote, “Dad was helping my younger sister with her agricultural science project when he took the picture with his Salers in the background.”
P.J. Ryan snapped the photo earlier this month, not knowing it would eventually earn him viral fame. His daughter had other ambitions.
In submitting the photo for the selfie contest, Aisling wrote: “Dad buys and reads the Irish Farmers Journal religiously every week and it would be amazing if you could publish dad’s picture. I know he would be over the moon to see himself in the Journal.”
Ryan’s grand prize: a Christmas hamper, contents inside not revealed.
Guardian Newspaper: Should Australian newspapers publish climate change denialist opinion pieces?
Should Fairfax — or other media publishers — give a platform for climate change denialist opinion pieces?
The most recent example is Fairfax publishing a piece by John McLean, a member of the International Climate Science Coalition.
In the opinion piece, McLean repeats various lines designed to create uncertainty about the recent report by Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, and to impute a sinister motive on IPCC members of political and scientific deception.
He states that the IPCC “still hasn’t produced credible evidence to support that claim” that “anthropogenic emissions of CO2 were causing significant and dangerous climate change”, and that reports are “modified” to better align it with the thinking of a “hard core group of IPCC supporters” and governments.
McLean even brings up the discredited bogeyman of “Climategate” as evidence that a “clique of scientists has in the past sought to control the material cited by these reports.”
What is the International Climate Science Coalition?
It’s website claims that it aims to “move debate away from “implementation of costly and ineffectual ‘climate control’ measures” and “publicising the repercussions of misguided plans to ‘solve the climate crisis’. This includes, but is not be limited to, the dangerous impacts of attempts to replace conventional energy sources with wind turbines, solar power, biofuels and other ineffective and expensive energy sources.”
Heading the ICSC is a former Canadian energy company public relations consultant, and the ICSC earlier this year released a report attacking the United Nations climate report alongside ultra-conservative climate denialist group Heartland Institute.
Amongst its policy advisory board sits Christopher Monckton, international climate crank, and other scientists involved have a chequered history with tobacco apologist groups.
The piece by McLean is part of a long and highly successful attempt by denialist groups to create confusion and doubt.
These groups, like the ICSC that McLean represents, have links to fossil fuel industry backed institutes and foundations. The role that the ICSC plays as part of the climate denialist machine is explained in this DeSmog Blog article from earlier in 2013.
It is now widely documented that fossil fuel corporations have followed in the footsteps of the tobacco industry in creating faux-scientific organisations to attack the mounting scientific evidence pointing to fossil fuels’ principal contribution to global warming.
The question as to whether news publishers should publish climate denialist views was recently canvassed after the Reddit /r/science forum banned content that promoted climate change denialism.
The reason for this, according to Reddit science moderator Nathan Allen, is that climate change denialists:
could not or would not improve their demeanor. These problematic users were not the common “internet trolls” looking to have a little fun upsetting people. Such users are practically the norm on reddit. These people were true believers, blind to the fact that their arguments were hopelessly flawed, the result of cherry-picked data and conspiratorial thinking. They had no idea that the smart-sounding talking points from their preferred climate blog were, even to a casual climate science observer, plainly wrong. They were completely enamored by the emotionally charged and rhetoric-based arguments of pundits on talk radio and Fox News.
As a scientist myself, it became clear to me that the contrarians were not capable of providing the science to support their “skepticism” on climate change. The evidence simply does not exist to justify continued denial that climate change is caused by humans and will be bad. There is always legitimate debate around the cutting edge of research, something we see regularly. But with climate change, science that has been established, constantly tested, and reaffirmed for decades was routinely called into question.
Over and over, solid peer-reviewed science was insulted as corrupt, while blog posts from fossil-fuel-funded groups were cited as objective fact. Worst of all, they didn’t even get the irony of quoting oil-funded blogs that called university scientists biased.
The Fairfax piece by John McLean unfortunately fits the description given by Allen.
The byline given for McLean is “author of three peer reviewed papers on climate” and as “an expert reviewer for the latest IPCC report”.
The fantastic thing about peer reviewed papers is that when they contain errors or questionable findings, expert peers note them. This is the case with McLean’s “peered reviewed papers”. However, McLean apparently is unwilling to admit mistakes:
McLean has followed the example of fellow fake skeptic Patrick Michaels, who we recently saw has been unwilling to admit his obvious and indisputable errors in distorting the research of James Hansen and colleagues.
His byline, written in such a way, it gives McLean a credibility he simply does not possess.
While I was in Canada recently, I was interviewed on the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation alongside Ken Green from the conservative Fraser Institute. Ken Green was introduced as a reviewer of the IPCC report as well. Ken is not a climate scientist, so has not special expertise in this field.
While “reviewer” gives the impression that the person was involved in the process of writing or checking the report, in fact, it just means that the person read the IPCC report.
John McLean had no role in reviewing the IPCC report, other than as someone who read it, and then subsequently commented on it.
Should Fairfax have published McLean’s opinion piece?
When Fairfax saw mining billionaire Gina Rinehart buy a large stake in the company, the chairman Roger Corbett upheld the board’s support for the charter of editorial independence. This was opposed at the time by Rinehart, although Rinehart board appointee Jack Cowin signed it.
Coincidentally, Rinehart is a big supporter of ICSC policy advisor Christopher Monckton and in a 2011 interview expressed her disbelief that “a small amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere” could lead to global warming.
The Rinehart shareholding controversy even saw Fairfax mastheads launch a new slogan “Independent. Always.”
A part of the charter is that editors behave according to the Australian Journalist Association’s code of ethics, the first standard being that journalists:
Report and interpret honestly, striving for accuracy, fairness and disclosure of all essential facts.  Do not suppress relevant available facts, or give distorting emphasis.
At the same time that Reddit /r/science decided to ban climate denialism, the L.A. Times also decided to introduce an editorial policy for its letters pages. Editor Paul Thornton wrote:
I’m no expert when it comes to our planet’s complex climate processes or any scientific field. Consequently, when deciding which letters should run among hundreds on such weighty matters as climate change, I must rely on the experts — in other words, those scientists with advanced degrees who undertake tedious research and rigorous peer review.
And those scientists have provided ample evidence that human activity is indeed linked to climate change. Just last month, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change — a body made up of the world’s top climate scientists — said it was 95% certain that we fossil-fuel-burning humans are driving global warming. The debate right now isn’t whether this evidence exists (clearly, it does) but what this evidence means for us.
Simply put, I do my best to keep errors of fact off the letters page; when one does run, a correction is published. Saying “there’s no sign humans have caused climate change” is not stating an opinion, it’s asserting a factual inaccuracy.
One of the arguments that I have seen against the notion that climate denialists should be given a media platform is that without it, there would be no “balance” in reports on climate change.
However, surely newspapers should aim for objectivity rather than balance, especially if one “side” is just plain inaccurate.
After all, what appears on newspaper opinion pages is a decision made by editors. Newspaper editors decide every day what merits inclusion in those pages; completely fanciful views are effectively banned through the decision not to publish rubbish.
Is the responsibility of major media publishers on honesty, accuracy and objectivity?
That seems to be the view of the L.A. Times, and of Reddit.
Does Fairfax have the same responsibility? Should it have published the McLean opinion piece?
What do you think?
Alex, your article is riddled with mistakes about us. I have written a letter to the editor to correct your mistakes and suggest that, before attacking us, you should have simply contacted me to ask if what you read on DeSmogBlog was actually true. Let’s hope they have the integrity to actually publish the letter.
It seems the Guardian took exception to my use of this image (I suppose they haven’t found this one from Josh yet). I provide this exchange for a model by which others might refute such claims. This essay is also satire, just so you know. Email addresses and phone numbers are redacted as a courtesy and the exchange is ordered chronologically.
Thank you for your letter. It falls under fair use, because it is used for satire and criticism. From Wikipedia:
Fair use is a limitation and exception to the exclusive right granted by copyright law to the author of a creative work. In United States copyright law, fair use is a doctrine that permits limited use of copyrighted material without acquiring permission from the rights holders. Examples of fair use include commentary, search engines, criticism, parody, news reporting, research, teaching, library archiving and scholarship. It provides for the legal, unlicensed citation or incorporation of copyrighted material in another author’s work under a four-factor balancing test.
The article it is used with covers all three of the bolded items. Especially criticism, since Guardian reporters are part of the expedition under issue.
Further, the image is present on the Twitter feed of your reporter, and the feed header makes no claim of copyright. see: https://twitter.com/alokjha
The original source of the image: https://twitter.com/GdnAntarctica/status/412977161323036672  also has no Guardian copyright statement.
Given that the image is used under fair use practice, and that no copyright is claimed by the Guardian at publication, I see no legal reason to remove it.
The Guardian has itself become part of the news since their climate-alarmist reporters are present. This foolish expedition which was hoping to find polar bears gasping their last on a slither of ice during Summer in the Antarctica have been trapped by ice. It certainly warrants some satire – at the very least. So what’s their problem? They participated in a trip that was a total fisasco, they’ve got egg on their face, and since they obviously can’t bear being laughed, they must stifle these voice(s) of satire by threatening a lawsuit?
